The introduction of the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR) in 2014 transformed the way in which medical cannabis is authorized, produced, and distributed in Canada. With the implementation of MMPR, Canada has found itself at the forefront of one of the world’s newest, fastest-growing and most exciting industries. As with almost any new regime, a lack of regulatory precedent and effective self-governance has created a regulatory gap that leaves the industry vulnerable to ethical lapses. By adopting a self-regulatory framework through the enactment of a Code of Ethics, the CMCC is working to fill that gap.
